Adding Adsense using Nvu

If you haven't already, please read our Google Adsense page explaining the benefits of Adsense and how you can easily generate extra cash directly from your website with little to no effort. Click here to read all about it.

This page is entirely about adding Adsense to your webpage using Nvu.

Now, Nvu is certainly a great FREE web page editing program, no doubt. However, it does have its' occasional, less than desirable, quirks.

One of them is the challenge of adding Google Adsense code to your web page using Nvu. You'll find it doesn't work correctly. In fact, it doesn't work at all. But, it's just a minor inconvenience, because...there are several solutions.

The following video tutorial along with the text-guide below will show you probably the easiest way to add Google Adsense to your webpages when using Nvu.

Saving and Publishing your Pages

If you have hi-speed you can watch the SmartFTP NVU video tutorial make it easy OR follow the directions below:

1) Get the program called SmartFTP. It's free for personal users. SmartFTP allows you to send and retrieve files to your web hosting company.

To set up SmartFTP, simply type in the ftp information in the box at the top. This is same FTP information you used to initially set up Nvu.

You'll need to enter ftp.yourwebsitename.com, Login : webhostusername, and your password. The login and password are the login and password you set up when setting up your webhost.

Once you do that, then click on FTP, then on Connect.

You are now connected to your webhost.

2) Next go to Google Adsense and open an account if you haven't already...

After opening an adsense account, copy the code for the type of ad you want to place on your website. Watch creating ads video tutorial if you want extra help.

3) Open Nvu and look at where you want to place the ad. And where you want to add the ad, place a text holder. In the video tutorial we used OOOO. This will help make it easy when we copy and paste the adsense code later on. Save the file to your computer (File, Save).

3) FInd the folder the web page you just saved computer. Open that folder up by double clicking. For example, if you want to ad Adsense to your home page, then find the index.html page in your website folder.

4) Once you open the folder and find the file, right click on the file and then choose open with notepad. Using Notepad, scroll down to where you put the text holder (OOOO) and then highlight the OOOO and Paste the Google Adsense code into the web page file. Make sure it pastes over the OOOO.

5) Save the file, Close Notepad.

6) Open the folder where that file is saved. Now Click and drag that file down into SmartFTP. Let go of the mouse when your anywhere in the right hand window. It will ask you to overwrite the file, choose Overwrite.

7) Open up your web browser and look at your new home page with Google Adsense on it :)

It might take a little practice, but after a while it's easy to do. And won't take but a minute or two. Hopefully, the folks at Nvu will fix this problem soon. Please note : If you have Dreamweaver, it's extremely easy to ad Adsense and takes just a few seconds.

But, even with the extra Nvu effort, you will still be able to enjoy the many rewards of having Adsense on your website.
